Pro-Tools Softgate problem?

I too, am new to the world of home recording. I record with Pro-Tools 7.3. Just straight vocals for voice-over. I have a Neumann KMS-105, into an MBox, into my mac and pro-tools. Lately, I've been having some sort of fading issue. As I am in a session, my vocals slowly fade away in my headset, then eventually come back up. It doesn't fade away all the way, but enough to really notice it and is evident in the WAV files in Pro-Tools. Why is this happening?? It sucks too because then I have to try to add gain to the softer audio. Is there a setting on PT that I need to turn off?

Is there any automation running on the track that is being recorded? That or it is possible that the mic is loosing phantom power from the M-Box itself. I have heard of a few issues with the M-Box regarding power not being what it should.

There is no automation running. Yes, it could be the mbox is suppose. What do you suggest? A stronger pre-amp?

I guess if you can access a different pre to try and bypass the pre and phantom power in the M-Box that will tell you if it is the M-Box or not. Stuf like that is kind of a process of elimination until you find the source of the problem. I always start with the easy things first. It very well could be the mic itself for that matter. If you have a different mic you can borrow or have to try that is a good place to start. That and or the cable. But I have never seen a cable do anything like that, it either works or not.
