Help! Yamaha USB Latency

I recently purchased a Yamaha PSR-295 with built in USB midi. I'm trying to record using the virtual instruments built into Mixcraft. Everything works great except there is about a 2 second delay from the time I play a note till the time I actually hear it played back. This makes it impossible to track anything in time.

I have Windows Vista with 4 gigs of ram using a Creative SB XFI sound card. I've already tried ASIO4ALL with no success. I have an M-Audio Fast Track Ultra for standard instrument recording and it works great with no latency problems. Any suggestions?

Thank you!

I would suggest using the M-Audio interface then. Creative is for gaming and not usually able to run low latency when using virtual instruments. You can check to see where the buffer is set and try running it down to say 128 but I doubt that will make that card run much better at all as far as latency goes.

The problem with using the PSR-295 is that it only has USB midi out and does not have the traditional midi cable outputs so it will not work with the Fast Track Ultra.

What route do you suggest I should take to resolve the problem? Should I buy a USB midi controller or a new sound card?

Since I have the Fast Track Ultra I do not need a sound card with inputs. However can you suggest a reasonable priced sound card that would have better latency with PSR-295?

Thanks!

Hey! Sorry I get what you are saying now, use the Fast Track Ultra as my sound card for playback. It works great now, no latency!

However, now I have new question. Can you suggest me a good cheap ($100-$150) powered monitor for playback that will work good with the Fast Track Ultra.

Thanks!

You can take a look at something like the M-Audio BX-5a. That should be in about that price range I do believe. Otherwise looking into them used is an option as well.
