Muting vocal track when recording on BR1200cd?

Hi all. I am looking for a way to mute the actual track I am recording while recording. I want to listen to the playback of tracks already recorded as a reference to sing to but I find I record my voice better if I don't hear it through the mic so I'd like to mute my vocal track while recording. It suggests this is possible in the manual by holding the mute button and pressing the track button simultaneously but I only seem to be able to mute a track during playback, not while recording.

Does it specifically state it will do it during the recording? I simply do it by routing differently, but I'm not sure you can route the a different output buss on the BR or not. If you can that would be the way to go. Simply monitor a different output and send only the playback tracks to it.
