The tech is batty.

Sonar will run with anything, as will most other software. It is the controller chip which causes the problems. In other words, the firewire chipset that is in the PC or laptop itself. Not the software.

While USB is more stable in all honesty as it has a longer history then firewire. Firewire is not caused problems by most recording software. I have set up several MOTU firewire interfaces with Sonar and other DAW's and not had any issues that were not related to the firewire chipset.

I dont really want to go back to usb, what is a decent chip-set i can put into my pc.I was advised to get a firewire T.I card, around $10.I cant find what my pc has in it but it worked with an edirol fa interface.

It may have a TI in it already then. Edirol is one of the picky interfaces that really require the TI chip to work well.

But yes, TI is the preferred chip for doing firewire interfaces.

hmm, I have sonar and a 2626 and have not had any problems, hell that combo replaced my delta 1010 that i've had for 7 or 8 years now . There should be no need to get anythnig else.

I think M-Audio is the problem.Ive always had problems.Ive looked into getting a Motu 8pre.I was wary because i considered it a MAC interface but ive read a few good reviews from pc users.

Just curious as to why you are avoiding USB?

I personally would reccomend the MOTU also, but I have never had problems with USB, can't say the same for firewire.

Makes me nervous with some of the reports of MOTU being non-existent to consumer problems.

May just be scuttle-butt, but i'd research more.

that said, they sure look like tasty interfaces.

I've installed many MOTU interfaces over the years and on the couple occasion's requiring tech support I've had nothing but good luck with that.
