BOSS BR-8

I have a Boss BR-8, and I have a few questions I've been trying to find info on.
I'm planning on getting a 750 USB zip disk drive to export my files, but I was wondering when I put the songs on my laptop, will the songs be in a certain format, like wav, mp3, etc? Or will I have to change them, so that I can burn onto cd, and how do I do that? I also have Vista, so I don't know if that will effect it in anyway.

Hi Rebecca, welcome to HRC.

If you go here, www.roland.ca/default.asp?c=43 you will find the BR8 wav converter software from Roland. Scroll down and hit the tiny little Agree button and it iwll let you download the software in a zip file.

It will let you export your files from the BR and it automatically converts them to wav files you can use in any CD buring software to get them on CD. And I do believe it works in Vista. I could not confirm that though on the Roland web site .

Get the software from the above link and hook directly up to your PC. Drive type does not matter at this point.

I finally got a zip disk drive and I'm using that software, but it seems to only let you convert and save 2 tracks at a time and I have up to 8 tracks on a song, so the tracks are all split up. Is there anything else you need, to put all the tracks together into one song?

That's a bit odd. I know an older version of it would let you simply export all the files at once. I suppose there might be different version's of it for the different BR units that were out.

You can use any of the freeware application's out there such as Krystal Audio Engine. www.kreatives.org/kristal/

It is a simple multi-track mixing program that will allow you to import the wav fils and mix them down to a single stereo track to burn to CD.

You can also look into Reaper, which is shareware but fully functional in demo mode. www.reaper.fm/

Well, you don't just slap it all together really.

A bit of knowledge of your gear helps. Like reading the manuals that came with it to start getting familiar with it and how it works.

If you have recording software and an interface for the PC then the BR is really not needed unless you are going to be doing remote recording away from the PC. That or your using its pre amps with the mic you have. But you simply need to dump the recorded tracks from the BR then to the PC with the software I posted a link to above.

So, if you can be a little more descriptive other then slap together we might be able to give you a bit more direct advice. Like what kind of music, how many instruments at once and what type of instruments are you going to record.

I also have a Boss BR-8. I like it but am limited because of the 100 mb zip drive. I know you can upgrade to the 250 mb drive, but was wondering if anyone has tried the 750 mb drive? Please let me know so I can go ahead and get the larger storage capacity I need so bad.
