Cabinet Simulation

Hey All...
Does anyone have any input on cab simulators? I have a Hughes & Kettner Red Box which i think is pretty good but before i got a chance to really play with it, i lost it. Are there any similar products out there...or is Red the only known product for that application? basically, i want to run my effects into a cab sim to keep stage volume low. I'm not looking for software-based products as this would be for a live application. Thanks.

Not sure exactly what you're asking. But, I know that the Line 6 POD's have cab sims.

Hmmm... I'm not sure of one that's an independent sim. But, thanks for telling me about the H&K one. haha.

there are a few out there

Behringer Ultra-G GI100 DI

Tech 21 SamsAmp (there are several)

and there are the line 6 POD family that you can turn off all the effects and just use the cab.

Is this for guitar or bass? What kind of amp, if any, are you using? Make/model?

The POD stuff had one for guitar and one for bass. The bass one kicks ***! I love the way they sound. (But I'm not a bassist.) The guitar one, is a bit lacking. IMO

The cab i have currently is a Mesa 2x12. it rocks for a little guy, but i actually like the cab sound blended with the Red Box at the FOH. the cab for dynamics and definition mixed with Red for beefiness, it sounds pretty huge. especially since i have an open 2x12 which doesnt have that fullness on its own that a full (or even half) stack can provide, The other cool thing about the red box is it can take speaker load, so you can either use a line-out or a speaker out from your amp and heat up your tubes (if applicable).

I actually have a SansAmp PSA-1 as my pre which has a 'cab sim' but its not the best. thats why i was wondering if there were better ones out there. Didnt the guitarist from 'Boston' create his own circuitry so he never had to use a cab on stage? i heard that once...not that im after his tone, but i wonder how he was able to get it to sound like a cabinet.
