Cubase LE 4 playback problem

Equipment/Software: Currently I have my Condensor microphone running into my Lexicon LambdA soundcard running into Cubase LE 4 on my Vista machine.

Problem: I can't hear my recorded signal on playback. I'm almost certain that signal from my microphone is reaching cubase because the monitoring levels react everytime i speak into the microphone; That and the fact that i'm able to create a non-flat waveform when i record.

My thoughts/questions: The Lexicon LambdA recording interface comes with L and R output ports in the back, Would i need to purchase speakers that plug into these ports? I recently bought a pair of USB studio monitors; Which im thinking is reading my internal soundcard. But i've made it a point to default my Lexicon LambdA as my primary soundcard in Microsoft's Control Panel.

What should i do guys?

You can either plug powered speakers into the output on your Lambda and monitor from there, or you can tell Cubase to output to your internal soundcard whenever you want to hear your playback.

That's pretty much what I did for a long time. When I was tracking, I'd set the VST multitrack output device to my recording soundcard (the Lexicon in your case). Then when it came time to mix, I'd set the VST multitrack output device to my other sound card.

What is the make and model of your USB studio monitors? I'd like to look up the manual online and see what your options are for connectivity.

Usually the USB devices show up as their own sound card.

Since ASIO drivers only let you use one device at a time you are probably going to be stuck switching between the lamba driver and your USB monitor driver when jumping between recording and playback.

Another downside, you will not be able to monitor other tracks while recording making it quite difficult\impossible to say.. lay a solo over a rythm track.

The ideal setup would definitely be some powered monitors running from your Lambda outputs.

On a side note, does your lambda card have a headphone out? Headphone outs usually mirror an interfaces primary outputs (1&2, L&R). Although not great for mixing it would keep you from switching devices while recording yet still allow you to monitor your playback.

edit: ok just looked at your device. It does have headphones (assume as much). Plug some in, record to your hearts content. Once done tracking, switch cubase over to use your USB monitors as outputs and mix away.

You can use the headphone output of the Lexicon for monitoring during tracking, then switch to the USB speakers for simple playback and mixing.

No, what you can do is if those USB speakers have a RCA input you can go down to your local bestbuy or radioshack and pick up a pair of RCA cables with 1/4' males. That way you'll save a bundle on another pair of speakers. Goodluck =)
