If anyone knows the band Breathe Carolina, or any electronic kinda band, you'll know they do a certain vocal effect where the vox cut in and out, but are still on the beat. And sometimes the vox are put into a rhythm. can anyone help? Thanks...

IF you can think of a specific tune by them that might help.

I listened to a couple and heard several different effects. Vococder, Autotune, filtered and a few other effects.

So a specific track with the effect your looking for would help out.

It sounds like an autotune being cranked up and chjopping the vocal part as it drifts out and back into key.

You can achieve a similar effect using a vocoder as well but it isn't as easy as just setting the autotune letting it do its thing.

What happens is when its set to a max setting as it tries to correct the inflection in tone it has a brief moment were it cuts it our sounds as if it is cutting the vocal.

We used to achieve the same type of effect using samplers, but that was a lot of work to get it right.

You can also try using a gate to slam it shut as well to get a somewhat similar effect.

They also have slicer on there, for some of the vox.

I haven't played with slicers, though I know FL studio has one in it =).

I use Cakewalk Sonar Producer v8... I think they have a slice tool... I don't know how effective it is, but I'll give it a try...

Definitely a slicer, i think you can download the DB Glitch plugin, if thats wat its called, its a free plugin somehwere u can find off the net.

it syncs to ur song tempo and the slicer mode does that choppy effect.

works everytime

I believe the the VST plugin "Chopper" by MDA does the same thing. I used it recently on a guitar part and it worked well. The only problem is that it introduced a subtle clicking sound as it did its chopping.

If you find a good slicer/chopper, post back here because I'd like to find a new one.

Yes, you can use the slice tool in Sonar 8 PE in pretty much the same way.

It does take some practice and tweaking to get it to sound like the sample you listed though. It won't happen automatically.

I'm gonna try to use the plugins, and if they don't o the trick, I'll do the good old fashioned, zoom and slice....
