N E one know the ins and outs of an mpc1000?

I have an mpc 1000, an older version 1.7 os. (the Blue with the red sides). I use to keep it on for days on end which may be the cause of my problem but....I just recently loaded a 1 G compact flash card with samples and drum kits with programs and all. When I try and load the wav's into my mpc, it won't read the card. If i jiggle the card in a bit, it sometimes reads the card but doesn't recognize the files. It does the same thing with the other card i had in it, the 32mb CF that originally came with it. When i hook my mpc to the cpu via usb, the computer always asks me to format the disk....Some one please direct me to a repair shop, or do i need a new piece of hardware, or if i can fix it myself...This is the brain of my set up for the moment...Please Help
