Nov 19, 2008 04:25 am Christmas music is a vile aural crime.
Nov 19, 2008 05:29 am no it isn't at all not one bit
Nov 19, 2008 07:34 am Eh. I like Xmas tunes too, but only after Thanksgiving. It's just a rule with me.

Nov 19, 2008 11:29 am Most Xmas music is novelty music as far as I'm concerned.
It's like those top-40 radio hits that you've heard so many times that they've been stripped of all significance and meaning.
That being said, I might grab Sufjan Steven's Xmas boxed set. It's a combination of music he wrote and the obvious standards that he's reimagined to some extent. But 5 CDs worth of music that I can only listen to between Thanksgiving and Xmas? I'm not so sure I'm up for the investment.
Nov 19, 2008 01:08 pm I second Herbs motion. Only after Thanksgiving.
Nov 19, 2008 01:37 pm it is thanksgiving now, basically
that snoopy song was kind of a hit. the royal guardsmen did it. i have no idea if this is true, but the wiki page says they have a new one called snoopy vs osama.
Nov 19, 2008 05:01 pm "A Charlie Brown Christmas" and Jennifer Haines' "Christmas Magic" -- Don't need anything else.
Movies on the other hand... 1951 Alistair Sim version of Scrooge / Christmas Carol (there is no other, IMO), It's a Wonderful Life (friggin' classic), A Christmas Story (burning out badly, but very cute anyway).

Nov 19, 2008 06:16 pm this is where you guys go,"And we care why?"
Nov 19, 2008 08:30 pm I love Christmas music, but I, too, usually wait until after Thanksgiving to bring it out. I'm always on the look out for something new and different. Same old songs get to be a bit much year after year.
Nov 20, 2008 06:24 am Especially when all the stores start blaring them the day after Halloween. There's a local FM station that went 24/7 Christmas two weeks ago. I mean, enough already.

Nov 20, 2008 06:42 pm Nice, that snoopy one still gets me every time. I loved the Royal Guardsmen. I ended up flipping through a ton of old hits by bands from back then from that one YouTube page. Brought back some great memories for sure.
But Xmas music, ya they start playing it way too early round here as well.
And speaking of Xmas music. After Turkey day I will start uploading one or two of the tunes each week from my now ancient electronic Xmas stuff again for this year.

Nov 20, 2008 10:10 pm Love that 'Charlie Brown' stuff... all of it. Gary Howe rocks, too. I don't care too much for the 'traditional' type of Christmas music, for the most part... too damn catchy. It gets all nutty to me after a while... like bad sitcom comedy. There is a couple songs that I've gott'a hear each year just once, to drive-home the 'goodness' of the season.
I've uploaded our offering of 'Christmas music' into my profile. It's titled March Of The Elves, and is sung by one of Santas sadistic elves, named Henry. Actually, I think they're all named Henry. Not one for the little ones to be around for... scary, scary, elf ****!
JDOD, your safe with this one.

Nov 21, 2008 09:11 pm Hue, you know that March of the Elves is one of my favorites for sure. It is the most evil side of the jolly man and his elves.
I am holding fast though and won't start uploading the digital Xmas stuff until after Turkey Day.
JDOD, I'll be checking this out in a bit.

Nov 21, 2008 10:08 pm Thanks Noize!
One of these days we'll actually have the entire score of the film to post. Now going on three years since its conception. Chrismas comes once a year, so every year we have a new deadline to miss. It's one of those projects y'a touch on every now and then, moreso to do it right, without any rush whatsoever. This kind of thing is timeless.
Nov 21, 2008 11:06 pm Hue, I remember this from last year. Good stuff!
I'll be posting some holiday tunes when the time becomes nigher.

Nov 22, 2008 10:43 pm JDOD, I have to admit I'm a bit of a Darkness fan. While its not all good they indeed seem to have fun with what they do. there is entertainment in their videos, and the music is not really that bad. Kind of interesting really.
I found the video interesting as well. Its just plain fun.

Nov 24, 2008 01:01 pm Xmas music....hmmm, that reminds me...I was going to do a celtic/irish rendition of God Save Ye Merry Gentlemen. Yeah, I'll have to get back to work on that one. :P
Nov 24, 2008 01:03 pm It's God REST Ye Merry Gentlemen.

Dec 04, 2008 03:19 am Man, that's a shocker.
Dec 04, 2008 06:32 am god rest ye merry gentlemen makes you want to go out into the snow with a mug of something. that song seems engineered to capture a specific, weird emotion. a serious winter drinking battle song almost.

Dec 04, 2008 10:19 pm OK zek, that was funny and cool at the same time.
It might make me like Xmas a little bit more this year.
OK, maybe not.
