Vocal FX on Major Artists

Hello-
I dare not ask this question on one of the other Home Recording website boards (you all may know the one I mean).

Is there a resource or a site that shares the info on FX and techniques used by particular artists out on the radio now? I mean, how do they do THAT on this album or that song on that guys voice. I'm most interested in vocal FX/mixing techniques. I don't need to copy their work but need to see the basics of what they're doing.

So does anyone think/know if there is some site where some engineers and/or mastering guys get together and talk about this stuff, to gossip or rant or educate?

thanks

Alanfc, surf around this site and read soem of the posts, or go to the tips section and check it out. You can even use the search function we have, and just type in a word or phrase. It will bring up most of the stuff that matches your request. A far as magic formulas, there really arent any. And most of the guys I know wont share their secrets. At the forum here, we are all pretty eager to share what we know. so like I said, surf around and read a bit. And by all means ask questions, that is what we are here for.

Alanfc,

Sorry guy, no known such information. The only only stuff I have seen on that is in rags like Guitar Magizine, Bass Magazine, and Recording Magazine. Sometimes groups will share the process to some degree in those rags. Usually not detailed. People are pretty free here however. Listen to some fo the posted music and go from there!

Ya, it's quite easy to find mags and websites with interviews with guitarists and bassist talking about how they get their sound, even other instrumentalists, but I don't ever recall reading any interview asking "how do you get that great vocal sound?".

No that you bring it up, that does seem kinda odd doesn't it?

Yes indeed I believe that this information is precious and is therefore not widely reported.
I have spent alot of time in alot of places searching and learning about a million different ways to do vocals and FX. It looks like a neverending process and lots of trial and error. I have great confidence in and patience with the trial and error method.

I just couldn't resist asking that original question though. Now my suspicion is confirmed, that producers/engineers need to keep alot of this vital info to themselves because their jobs and reputations depend on it. I would do the same.
