i've been piecing together my home studio and i've been told the line 6 ux2 would be great for my situation with recording on my computer. im not exactly sure what this gear does other than its a pre-amp with phantom power w/ guitar and mic inputs.

i wanna record solo stuff with acoustic, bass, computerized drums, and vocals, with the occasional electric guitar track. i will be recording the tracks one at a time (solo)

also some people have told me to get the new pod x3 guitar processor im familiar with the first pod but im not sure what the new one does i know it too has mic and guitar inputs.

if anybody could help me understand more about this gear and what the difference is and which one would be the right choice for my situation i'd greatly appreciate it.

Take this with a grain of salt if you will.

I personally would opt for the UX-2 if I were in your shoes. I have a fully loaded PODxt which is more or less an x3 without the mic input. I also own a UX-2, which honestly gets used more these days then the xt does. Mostly for the fact it has 2 XLR inputs for microphones and both can run phantom power at the same time.

Funny enough is I own several higher end audio interfaces and I keep turning to the UX-2 for a lot of work.

With the gearbox interface on the PC it is much quicker and easier to use. And the mic pre amp models, which I'm sure you will be using for both vocal and acoustic are killer. I use them very often as well and it has saved me many trips to an outside studio.

I'm just not sure for your use that the few extra bells and whistle's that the x3 has are worth that much more money.
