Recording MIDI - problem with Acid Pro 6

Hi. I'm pretty new to home recording. I'm using Sony Acid Pro 6 and am able to record guitar (using GearBox) and Drums (using various plug ins) onto audio tracks without a problem. I can't for the life of me figure out how to record a midi track though. For example, I open up Korg Legacy using "insert soft synth" and it opens and plays fine. I can hear it, I just can't figure out how to record it though. If I "insert new midi track" and try to record to that, I get nothing. I'm pretty sure I've got all the audio configured correctly. Any help and advice would be VERY gratefully received as this is driving me nuts. Thank you.

What are you using for a midi controller or keyboard? Also, how is it hooked up?

I had a problem like this. I to use Acid Pro 6.

I am not sure what midi set up you have as far as hardware goes, but I have a M-Audio USB midi box and a keyboard controller.

If your trying to use the on screen keyboard to record your midi track, forget it. Acid doesn't like that at all, and you probably won't be able to do it. I spent 3 days trying to figure out why it wouldn't let me do that.

Once you hook up a controller to it with all the appropriate drivers, all you have to do is in the preferences tap under midi is make sure Acid is configured to read your mdid hardware that your midi controller is hooked to, then record on that midi track just like you would any other by arming it with the record button and playing as normal.

Not sure if I helped at all, but I tried... hahaha.

Thanks for the replies guys. I'm not using an external midi controller, I'm trying to use the virtual keyboard in Korg Legacy, which plays fine. I've also got Trollo as a virtual midi keyboard, but I can't get Acid to recognise that?

I don't think the V-Keyboard in Legacy will be able to be seen by the midi track.

But you should be able to point the midi output of the Trollo to the midi input track. Then make sure the midi tracks input is set to see Trollo.

Yea, I understand your frustration... believe me.

Your going to have to get some actual hardware I think. Once I hooked up a keyboard our my Yamaha DTXplorer electronic drum kit to it, I could hit 'record arm' and then record, play my keys or drum pads, and it would record like a normal audio track would. Then I could do punch ins and outs like normal or use the in-line midi editer to fix any mistakes.

I use the M-Audio Midisport midi interface witch can be found here:
keyboards-midi.musiciansf...face?sku=701258

And you can pick up a midi keyboard controller pretty cheap as well. Look around various online music stores. I bought a Concert Mate 990 from my local Radio Shack back in 1998, and it works like a charm in Acid.

Hey, thanks again all and thanks RockWood610, you're all being very kind to a clueless noob, nice community spirit guys. I've got a Korg N364 Synth/Workstation that I've been running through the GearBox, although I can only do it from the mono out on the Korg. So you think I've got to buy a midi/USB interface, like the M-audio above, and then use the Korg N364 as an external midi controller?

Well, I am thinking that would be the way to go. I'm not 100% sure... I'm not a full noob, just a half of one. hahaha.

And no problem Harmonious, I know whats it like to be stuck. I have been building my onw little production studio for over 3 years now, and the last year and a half or so, these guys have been great! I have learned almost everything I know now in my studio setup because of it.

And if I can pass that tourch down in any way, always willing to do so :)

Hahaha. Ok. I am going to hold you to that!

Actauly, I am having trouble with my Yamaha electronic drum kit sendind the wrong info to Acid for a drum VST I have. I purchased the Sony ACID seminar series DVD from Sony and I think I have descovered how you can use the on screen midi keyboard to record with.

I'll review the part on the disc again, and post the reply here.
