Signal Routing and Preamps

Ok heres the deal. I plan to run the channel inserts on my Behringer mixer with a Y split cable to the inputs on my Fireface 800 (which say balanced line level inputs and outputs) and then run the outputs back to the mixer. I want to do this to save having adaptors fo mic cables to be able to use all 8 inputs on the fireface at once and make it convienient plugging stuff in in my current rack setup.
Ok hers my questions.
-What is bypassed when sending the signal out on the mixer?
-Will the balanced inputs be affected by having a TRS configuration being split to TS and RS (I have a feeling that unbalanced inputs can be plugged into the unit regardless..im not sure)?
-Will the preamps built into my Behringer mixer 'cloud' or affect the tone of the mic signal running into the fireface say directly.
Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated.
Cheers, Boe

Oh and any recommendations for a certain brand of loom/snake to buy would be great. All I can seem to find is cheap crap on the web at the moment for this kinda stuff. (i.e a 4 x TRS 1/4 cable to 8 x TS 1/4 cable etc).

I might be missing something, but I can't figure a scenario where I'd want the Behringer in the chain. Unless you just need something to control your monitor volume -

I think he's using the behringer for the mic pre's as the fireface only has four.

Yeah im using the behringer mic pre's as it has 8 but also because with this setup I can get a clean recorded signal(s) into the fireface and then a live mix to run back out to the P.A.
