I saw this thing in the musicians friend catalog and i want one. i figure that it can probably make some weird stuff come out of a guitar. anyone heard one being used before?

Yeah, my friend has an E-Bow.

They make for really cheesy 80's type sounds, you can get some wierd effects, but it's not really my cup of tea.

I'm sure someone can list some songs / artists who have used them to good effect for you to listen to.

jues.

E-Bows are great fun! I've heard them used in all sorts of interesting ways. Coldplay has several songs using one and those are probably the best uses I've encountered. It's like anything else: Used in moderation, they can be really cool, but it's just another tool in the toolbox. I say get one!

The Smashing Pumpkins used an E-bow on both Adore and Machina (Also on Machina II, but most people don't know that album exists). They're fun little toys, take some getting used to though.

Is that them things that look like a staple gun?
If so, John Squire used one in The Seahorses.
