Un-tuning Windows XP for software install

TWIMC
I have tuned XP for audio recording, following the inst.of dB Masters. Well, I need to install some software and XP is not cooperating, I am assuming it will not install because of the audio tune-up?
Anyone have any suggestions on a quick de-tune to avoid having to retrace the entire process.

Exactly what software won't install? I've run the same tune up specs on both and SP2 machine and an SP3 machine without any ill effects.

I would suggest using the system Restore function found in the System Tools section. Simply roll back the system to a date previous to the changes and that should do it. That is unless of course you have also made any registry changes that should not have been made.

Indeed, registry changes have been made, not to mention, system restore, which has been turned off. All mods. are recommended by dB Masters. I have no issues with any of these mods, on the contrary, my recordings have been excellent, no dropped samples, no hiss, no pops, I'm psyched with the results of these mods. However, I'm trying to install a video editing program, one that I have installed many times before, and it's just not taking.
At this point it's probably best just to reinstall XP, huh?

A format never hurts. Just be sure you have all the drivers you need and all the files backed up that you want to keep.

Do you get any error messages when installing? If so what do they say? Have you installed other software and did you have this problem too? Noize asked it before, what is the software that is causing the problem?

Yep, if you can let us know what software that might help find a cause or solution as well.

I had a quick look again at the mods listed and I can't find anything that would alter the window's installer part's of any install.

I really would like to see what might have happened.

What service pack level are you at on that machine as well, SP2 or SP3?

I'm installing Premier CS3, the software seems to install, but when it's launched, I get an error message, basically saying program cannot launch. XP Pro SP2.

A quick search left me with this (possible) solution:

Quote:
Set up a new windows user account. Log on with that account and try opening Premiere from there. Once I did that then logged in under that account and opened Premiere it opened and worked fine.

I realize that this may not be the solution that you're looking for, but at least it's worth a try.

Reason why this might work is because Premiere will create new user profile files. The old ones could be damaged.

Another thing that can cause problems with CS3 is when you're running Windowsblinds!

In a nutshell, I reinstalled the OS, dLL issues. Ill make sure all of the software is installed before I tune it up for recording.
Thanks again, JM
