A/D Converter Options

I'm am trying to plan an upgrade for my recording studio, and I need some help sorting out my options for A/D converters.

I'm planning on getting a 24 channel mixing board, and i'd like to be able to run each individual channel into the computer for recording/editing/etc. From poking around a little bit, it looks like the MOTU 24 I/O is one of the standards in this area. But i know very little about digital recording, so my questions are:

1. does the MOTU in fact do what i think it does (that being feeding 24 analog channels into the computer seperately)?

2. Right now i have an M-Audio 1010lt in my computer and i realized i could also just get two more of these to have 24 channels of analog input. would there be a major difference in sound quality between this and a higher end product like the MOTU?

thanks, any good advice about A/D converters would be greatly appreciated.

Yes it does what you want, if I were doing the same thing the 24IO would be my choice.

Price wise it's not the best route, but I would think the high quality convertors on the 24IO combined with the fact that you can throw 24 of whatever pre-amp you choose at them would still be my choice.

If money is an issue I assume you could get two more 1010lt's much cheaper.

What Tripps said, yes it will do that.

On the difference between the MOTU and M-Audio units.

Night and Day. MOTU has been doing this for a bit longer then M-Audio. But don't get me wrong here either. ON a budget the LT is a good unit, not as clean as the regular 1010 but still good. I will state right off though that stacking 3 of the LT will put a big load on the buss of the PC. Were as the 24i/o will be much less strain on the PC. And the converters on that unit are pristine sounding. I've done several installs of the things and they are all good.
