Click Track live with laptop and USB mixer

Hello,

I've recently aquired a laptop to use live, I use Reason and want to take the clicktrack from it to the drummer so that he can play in time with sequenced parts.

Simultaneously I want the sequenced parts going to the PA without the click.

Sounds simple enough but I've been searching for a solution for so long!!!

I'm looking for a USB mixer (my laptop's soundcard is pretty low-end) with the ability to output specific tracks (i.e. the click) to a seperate channel for the drummer.

Can anybody help?

thanks,
Jonathan

I think one of M-Audio's Fast Track series units will do nicely for you and at a decent price. There are a few units out there now that will do that. You will need something with a channels of audio output to do what you want.

But yes, it can be done. You simply need an interface with at least 4 channels of output and then assign the playback to the first 2 outputs and the click going to the drummer to the second pair.

hey

dont know if this helps.. but i was searching for a cheap solution to that for a while and found it and it works fine...

i use nuendo live and for each song have a midi click track running alongside the audio. I also use an m-audio usb to midi converter and set the click track output in nuendo to the usb to midi thing.

Then i take the speaker output from the laptop (the main audio tracks minus click track) to a mixer which then goes to the main sound desk, i can then also use a headphone out for the drummer.

Then i take the midi track which has come out of the usb port and plug it into a basic midi sound module and select a percussion sound that the drummer can work with. i then combine this sound with the headphone output from the mixer so that our drummer gets click as well as audio and so that the it is only audio that gets to main mixing desk at FOH.

i used to use a combination of cables to join the click track sound with the headphone output (just a joining audio adapter) but i found an old yamaha cbx?? soudn module which has a seperate audio input which is ideal

hope that helps
