May 24, 2008 10:35 pm Well that is enough gear to do a one man thing for sure.
What exactly do you do as far as style and type of music? Are you doing more then one musician at a time or anything that would warrant more gear then that?

May 25, 2008 08:51 am Yep, tough to tell without knowing what you're trying to do.
Though, a keyboard with midi capability could add some fun. Set up PT to accept your keyboard MIDI, then set up some soft synths in PT to play.
Or, a keyboard with synths built in. I've got a juno-d, which is entry level synth, but tons of fun. I think the new juno-g has a sequencer built in, and some sort of loop thing.

hee hee, you said a mouthful there. good skills will beat out good equip =).
well, I think you know what I mean.
Anyway, just doing voice, you probably aren't in too bad of shape, equipment wise. Getting a good room tweak can help, like cutting down on bouncing waves, or similar.
I don't know what's in PTLE, but they probably have some quite nice compressors and EQ. These two will probably be of most use to you. Learn up on what they do, and how they can help you.
Purchasing some high-end $$$ plugins, for compressor and EQ may be a great idea, but like said already, learning how and why something sounds better with tweaking is much more important than just slapping on a hi-end effect.
George Massenburg once said somewhere: "the single greatest improvement you can do for yourself is to learn how to listen critically".
I couldn't agree more. Since I started really listening to what a piece is doing, or what someone did in XYZ song, it really gets your mind working. You start thinking: "hey, that's cool. I can do that too". Then you're off =).
Course, i'm listening to the beatles right now, and it's quite amazing what they did with very little technology =).

May 25, 2008 07:08 pm Ya, the only thing I could possibly think to add would be a good outboard compressor or pre amp. Although the M-Box has a pretty decent pre on it. But I don't think it has inserts to run an outboard compressor to it so that would be kind of moot without a pre to come before it for the mic.
