Well, I did finally get the Juli@ card a few weeks ago, after waiting a month for it on backorder, and initially it worked great, even though I was using the consumer jacks. Well, I finally decided to give the flippy thing a go to switch to the 1/4" jacks.
And then the **** hit the fan. First hurdle, the screws: so bleeding tight, that I ended up stripping several of them even though I tried -carefully- to get them out. Hurdle 2: having stripped the screws, I decided to try to delicately remove them with a dremmel, cutting a new slit into the top to try and get em out with a flathead.
That failed miserably, so I decide to say heck with it, and sawed through the metal braces themselves. That worked, and I was able to get the card apart.
Hurdle 3: After flipping it around, it was -extremely- difficult to fit the pins back together. In fact, unbelievably difficult. But I finally got it back together, and threw it back in the machine....only to find I had no sound.
I'm suspecting I must have nuked it and brushed against a pin or a chip somewhere while trying to fit it back together. -sigh- And yes I was grounded, and had an anti-static mat.
So it is with my displeasure, that I announce the death of my new friend Juli@ as of about 6:30pm this eve.
Luckily, I get paid next week, and on top of that, the economic stimulus thing later this month. So while it sucks that I killed my new soundcard, but with the new work hours (full time now) and the pay later this month, I can recoup and get another card. I think I'll just get an echo gina 3g since it's less hassle. Unless I see something better on zzounds blowout sales hehe.
(although oddly enough the card has power because the digital out is glowing red, but I guess I killed the pins or brushed against something while fitting it back together, so no sound from the jacks.)
