I have two ultra ata 100 hard drives and one cd-rw
I have all my programs on my master primery ide controler, I have my audio only on the hard drive slave primary ide controler, I have my cd-rw on the secondary ide controler master.
my question is should I put the audio hard drive on the secondary primary controler and the cd-rw as a slave? or keep the audio hard drive as a slave?
thanks gutter

Feb 20, 2003 12:03 pm I have heard there is only a marginal speed improvement between primary slave and secondary master, the secondary master being slightly faster.
Ultimately, you will probably not notice the difference, but technically the secondary master would be quicker. I would put it like this:
primary:
master: system drive
slave: cdrw
secondary
master: audio drive
slave: empty
That is how mine is set up.

Feb 20, 2003 01:32 pm I like Db's set up. Even if there is no difference in speed, I have had machines have problems when putting two CDR's on one IDE bus. This way you can expand your empty slot to whatever and not incure a hastle.

Feb 20, 2003 09:05 pm Yep, I run mine on the secondary. Primary setup is OS disk on the master and CD reader on the slave. Secondary, audio disk on the master and back up and network storage and backup on the slave. This will soon be changing as I am setting up a server which will run my SampleCell card and six 80 gig drive's for sample storage and other misc. storage. Then the audio box will run both master and slave for audio and video. And all the drive's on that box are hot swapable.
Feb 20, 2003 11:17 pm here's my setup, is this okay? i've never had any problems:
Motherboard:
Primary:
*Master 40x CD-ROM
*Slave Zip250
Secondary:
*Standalone 12x CD-RW
PCI ATA Controller card:
Primary:
*Standalone 15GB HD from OS+Programs
Secondary:
*Standalone 20GB HD for audio

Feb 21, 2003 12:05 am Looks good to me. I used to run all my audio drive's on an ultra ATA card and never had a problem either. The drives in the sample server will run on a card also, or someof them will.
