Should I disable the soundcard ??

Hi guys and gals!

Question for the collective!!

I want to add a FOCUSRITE Saffire audio interface to my PC and was told that I should DISABLE the existing soundcard and designate the audio interface as soundcard instead.

Is this a good idea ??
If so...how do I go about implementing such a feat ?

Any help would be greatly appreciated!!
