Disable a soundcard on Windows

Hi guys and gals!

Question for the collective!!

I want to add a FOCUSRITE Saffire audio interface to my PC and was told that I should DISABLE the existing soundcard and designate the audio interface as soundcard instead.

Is this a good idea ??
If so...how do I go about implementing such a feat ?

Any help would be greatly appreciated!!

Yeah, it's no big deal to disable the stock soundcard. You can always turn it on or off any time you like.

Go to Control Panel-> Sounds and Audio Devices-> Go to the audio Tab and the Voice Tab.

Then simply choose your devices- set them to the Focusrite after you've loaded all your drivers and such. This is a "soft disable" as the soundcard will still technically be "on" but it will bypass all the sound going to or coming from it.
