Can you record individual channels on Yamaha MG 206-C USB

I recently bought the Yamaha MG-206-C USB mixer board and I thought that by recording via usb, I would be able to record separate channels. Well I started doing it and all channels are coming through. now the mixer comes with cubase ai4 and thats what you are suppose to use i guess.

Heres what I want to do. I am a videographer and I record theatrical shows. Because of money costs I can't always hire someone to be behind a audio board doing live mixing. So I bought this board so that, for example, if I have 10 mic lines, i want to be able to record them channels live and then mix them later when i am done recording. So basically i want to plug in my inputs, press record, walk away, come back when the show is over and then stop recording. then take the recordings later and edit them.

the problem that i am having is that i have my inputs all plugged in. but you can hear the other inputs on the tracks you are separately recording. so for example, i have channel 1 and channel 2 recording mic inputs. now i go and record what i want to record. i come back to edit and if i mute channel 1, i can still hear what was on channel 1 on channel 2.

can anyone help with this? can i do this with this mixer? if you have any help that would be great.

I didn't look up the specs on this mixer but I'm under the impression that you can only record a stereo pair using USB.

Looking at the block diagram, the USB outputs are only on the stereo bus, so you'll only get 2 channels, notably Left & Right of the stereo bus that's coming out of the mixer.

You can use the mixer, but you will need an interface that will input 8 or more line level signals. I say 8 because 8 is pretty common.

There's the delta 1010lt, delta 1010, esp esi1010, motu traveller, and others.

You will only be able to send 2 channels to the PC via USB. You could sum channels together, but you'll only get what you have now. 2 or many channels all mixed together, resulting in a 2 channel stereo file.

Now, if you want to just record 2 individual tracks, you could send track 1 full on the left side, and send track 2 full on the right side. This will keep 2 channels separate from each other. Record into your software as 2 mono tracks, and they'll be separate.

But, it's only 2 channels.

We were looking at the Yamaha MG206C-USB yesterday. We thought that was the solution to what we needed which is the same as raven's; record all the instruments into separate tracks and have them sampled in the computer (Mac) via the USB port. There has to be a way to do it, i don't think a piece of equipment like this would have only a stereo output. So if somebody out there has done recording successfully please let me know. Also, if we want to use Logic Pro instead of Cubase is this mixer compatible? Any help is appreciated. thanks!

Here's the block diagram:

www.yamahaproaudio.com/pr...vel_diagram.pdf

At the bottom left is the USB out, which is carrying the L & R.

I don't think they were too interested in adding multitrack recording to this series, more like they were thinking you'd like a stereo feed, from a live mixer.

You can take individual channels from the mixer as analog, but not digital. You could do two tracks at a time, but that's probably not what you're wanting. The alesis I/O 26 will do individual tracks, but I think it's firewire.

I believe whosyourdaddy has worked with one, and found it to be a good device.

The mackie decks can take a firewire card as well, and give you individual tracks in your software. CptTripps has one of those, he just picked it up recently.

I have not laid hands on one of these decks, only read the marketing and looked at the block diagram. I could be wrong in my interpretation, though it seems pretty clear.

That's what I am getting from it also, seems to only capture a stereo pair.

And yes, the Mackie is set up in my room, I have tracked very little with it but it does sound fantastic as far as pre's go. I am waiting to pick up a laptop to really dive in as that is what I will use it with, but I was able to get it up and running under Vista, something 99% of people on their boards can't do as they only have XP drivers right now.

The mackie will do what you want, but it is pricey for sure. It captures the recording after the gain knob but pre-fader\eq so you can do whatever you want during a live show but the recording will stay the same level.

I can't wait to try it out at a show. Got a little more work\planning to do though.
