Recording Roland Drums in Cubase - How?

Hi everyone, I was wandering if any of you guys can help me at all...

I've never been able to get this right, I've usually spat my dummy out and just left it when I had Logic. But now I'm at Uni, a few of us have got together and just want to have a mess around recording. Here's the problem.

I'm currently running Cubase SL, and have an MI4 media interface. I'm running windoes XP and all the drivers are installed, etc.

My output on the Roland TD-3 drum module is going into the Input of the MI4 interface. This is then hooked up to my laptop using USB.

I have turned off my onboard mic, and have set the MI4 as my soud device through control panel. But I get nothing through in Cubase at all.

Sorry if this is a common question, but how do I get Cubase to pic up my drums? It's driving me insane!! lol

Thanks in advance for any help, it will be much appreciated.

Luke

EDIT: Just read the post again. Are you actually getting MIDI data to Cubase?

Thing is, MIDI is only DATA, no sound, no audio.

When you hit a drum, it goes into the roland, which outputs MIDI information like: Hit (note on) what drum you hit (pitch), how hard you hit it (velocity), the length (note off), and control signals for parameters related to the drum. You can send this information from MIDI out to say, another roland drum machine, and it will turn what information it is given into the related sound.

What you want to do in Cubase is create a new MIDI track, set MIDI IN to the MI4, record and edit the data, and then patch the MIDI OUT of your MI4 to the MIDI IN of your roland, hit play, and record the audio outputs of your roland. Alternatively, you can go to 'VST instruments' and load a drum machine such as the LM-7, then go to your MIDI track and make the 'output' go to the LM-7. That should trigger some sounds also.

Ah yes! MIDI in and out on the MI4 to my Roland. Didn't think of that at all lol, MIDI is confusing to me I'm afraid :(

I don't have any MIDI leads with me at the moment, but I will be able to grab a pair to test from Uni.

Thanks very much! I will post back with the outcome.
