When I plug in my MOTU 8pre to my pc or mac, it does not detect it. Worked fine forever, no reason for it to fail now, I am very confused.
The only thing I notice if anything, is the "interface" light is off.
I have tried different firewire cables and multiple machines.
Any suggestions?
Thanks,

Feb 03, 2008 05:55 pm Hey, welcome to HRC.
Sounds to me like it died; had any power surges lately? Also, try a different power chord if you have one laying around, sometimes power cables go bad too. Also, you could try manually searching for it on a windows computer and see if maybe there's a driver issue or something. I don't know much about this particular unit, but I've seen all kinds of whacky things with other MOTU units in the past. Could be anything really.
Did it just all of a sudden stop working, we're you working on a project and it stopped? Or have you just not had it hooked up for a while?
Feb 03, 2008 06:08 pm Thanks Keith,
Hm, I had not hooked it up for a few days.
I don't believe it was a power issue, what I am wondering though is if perhaps the firewire controller on the MOTU is damaged. Upon careful inspection I believe the firewire cable might have been plugged in upside down before. (By myself)
Hm, any suggestions, or anybody know what MOTU will tell me if/when I call them tomorrow?
