So I used to frequent these sites alot but not so much lately. I just checked today and there is a new (to me) feature that I find very helpfull. It is called the harmonizer, you simply plug in your chord progression and it comes back with many different scales to play, what key to play them in, and also if they are compatible (I use that loosely) with all chords in the progression or just some.
Since I don't read music I go here and draw my chords so I can get the names (who knew I was playing an F#m7#5 :) Not me!

Then I go here, plug in the chord names\progression and it pulls up some nice harmonizing scales. I can find one that works with all chords, or I can split it up and find scales for specific chords. I also like the fact that I can tell it in what area I want the scale to be displayed (14th fret vs. the 1st).

Hope this helps someone like it has me.
P.S. They also have the reverse of this, scale to chord mapper.

Jan 29, 2008 06:41 pm i might get some use out of this. not sure. i seem to find scales that work by ear and only later figure out what they are. this sure is comprehensive, though. i love the 'yes' 'no' columns.
Jan 29, 2008 06:51 pm you should learn how to play that chord just by looking at the spelling. it's fun and easy!

Jan 31, 2008 07:30 pm Yep, I would have to learn as well. I know what they are, but never use them. I'm just a rambler when it comes to lead playing. Kind of like Carlos, I just let it come out.

I would like to play effectively like that also, however when I try to what ends up coming out, most would want to go back in and not show its ugly head again. And when I do stay within the confines of a descent sound, I can't break out of the Minor Pentatonic first position at the 12th fret.

Feb 03, 2008 12:24 am Its much easier to do if you simply ignore music theory altogether.
