Upgrading audio interface; Question...

I am currently putting together a small home studio, and I am mainly working on Sony Acid Pro 6 and I also am doing video production with Sony Vegas.

Currently, I am using a simple PreSonus INSPIRE 1394 FireWire Audio Interface. I am pretty happy with the performance of this little guy, but for some video projects, I need more XLR inputs for commentary tracks and what not.

I am currently eye-balling the PreSonus FP10 FireWire Recording Interface. Is ths a good upgrade? And what all can this thing actualy do?

Also, I am looking to purchase a good power conditioner, one that is rack mountable. Any suggestions on that?

For FXs on my tracks, I use VST plugins from Waves, Line 6, and Sony. But while recording, I don't have any effects, and as a singer I need some verb to be able to really get into what I am doing... and sometimes a chrous effect. I would like to be able to record with these effcts... should I by an external effects processor amd just feed my audio interface out in the processor input and then run out of the processor into my headphone amp?

Please help with any good advice. Thanks.

Looks like a nice interface, at that price range I personally would be looking at the Motu products, the 8Pre to be exact. I have a couple local friends who went from presonus to motu and they are extremely happy. The Pre's are nice quality and they both stated they had connection issues with the firepod, especially in MAC.

On the FX I believe you would want to record the dry signal but set up a loop so you can hear the verb while singing. I personally don't know how to do this but am sure someone can chime in depending on your gear.

Yeah, I think you are looking at the "join date".

Yeah I posted this yesterday...

Thanks Tripps for the reply. I'll look into this unit. Do you know if it comes with on screen mixing software like the Presonus does? I would like to keep as much on the screen as possable. Buying boards and what not isn't something I can afford right now.

Not to mention, I am trying to take on a video studio as well and kind of roll all of this into one. Look to by a good pro 3CCD lens camera and everyhting, so money is everything at this point.

Indeed, mixing is done onscreen via software. I believe most interfaces are similar, I know the presonus and echo products use similar setups. 8pre can also funtion as an 8 channel pre-amp without being hooked to a PC. When to use that feature I don't know.

I am currently in the process of selling my HD147, my Layal 24/96 and two T1953 two channel tube pre's. With this money I plan on buying two of the Motu units so I can finally do Live recordings with 16 channels.

Yep - apologies. The post seemed very familiar somehow. Carry on without me :)
