Mackie Onyx 400F / Fireface 400 / Focusrite Saffire Pro 10? Help

I simply can't choose between these! I've been reading reviews, checking forums etc... for 3 days solid now and have hit a roadblock.

The mackie seems to have awesome pre's but many users have had some issues with compatibity, the Fireface seems the most stable and reputable but lacks little touches like physical volume pots for monitoring, and the Saffire seems great value for money but the pre's might not provide enough headroom for my high output neumann mic...

I won't be doing any multiple/simultaneous recording such as live drum tracks so I just want something that's gonna deliver the highest audio quality and most stability.
It's a shame the Apogee Duet's only compatible with the Mac...

Any thoughts would be great!

Well the firewire interfaces will all have issues, that is simply a common factor with them.

The Mackie is really the best value out of the bunch as they do support their product much better, or at least did in the past. RME has probably the best track record with the least amount of trouble of the three units you list. And Focusrite comes pretty close to that quality as well.

Even though I am not a huge Mackie supporter I would have to swing their way in this case as it appears it has all that you are looking for.

After your recommendation (and then subsequent research...) on one of my previous posts about SONAR 7PE, I will be using this as my primary software: will the mackie link up nicely with both this and the XP SP2 platform i'll be using it with?

C'mon campers, I'm still open-minded about these 3...the mackie DOES seem the best but so many people report problems using it with Windows, using it with Sonar etc...any truth in this?

IT should not have any problems. I believe there is actually a template for the Onyx in Sonar already, but don't quote me on that one.

I use all Mackie gear and have not one problem. Im using a 1640 Onyx mixer with the firewire option. Though I have not had any problems, I frequent Mackies forum to help when I can. Seems a few have problems and they usually get worked out. I use Tracktion 3 as my software and love it. So on the Sonar point I am no help. But all hardware issues (conflicts) can be resolved easily, if you encounter any.
