...hack an iPod Touch? I've seen hacks all over the web and I would like to discuss it here but only of course if it is not illegal and is ok with the terms of this site. The best I can tell is that it is NOT illegal. It appears that the "hacks" as they are referred to are simply installing 3rd party software. Please set me straight if I will actually be breaking the law by doing so.

Dec 17, 2007 12:01 pm Those Apple people were very clear about their iPhones. There was a hack/3rd party software patch that EVERYONE was using. Next service pack comes out and all the iPhones become paperweights. I'd be sure to check with their website FAQ to see if anything is there.
Technically, the iPod is yours, so you can do what you want to it. It's likely that warrantees etc. go void immediately, and help lines won't help...

BTW - I ask cause I got me one as a Christmas gift from the company I work for. My wife works at the same company and got a Bose dock for it. Uber cool. We love it.

Dec 17, 2007 12:28 pm OK, went to iTunes and read up on this. Still not overly clear but it looks like ALL 3rd party software is not covered by the warranty whether it is hack type software or not.
Not sure if I am going to hack it anyways, I was just curious. I want to find a way to record with it which is why I'm asking. It already does everything that I would want it to anyways.
Dec 17, 2007 02:25 pm It's been showed to not be illegal but the iPhone updated crapped out the phones that were hacked so it's a pretty significant risk more than being illegal.
If it was illegal then I would do it :)
