direct monitoring?

my new interface the rme ff 800 has an options of direct monitoring in cubase 4.how thats benefits me?is this a personal choice?or since i have the option of direct monitoring is better to click it?personally i didnt understand the difference...i only saw that when i hit the monitor button i a track it and sing..i dont hear my voice with the eq's and plugins that i ve puted..

I have something like that in audition. It is for monitoring with FX applied to the track I am recording. Honestly at 128 buffer I cannot use this as there is an audible delay, even at 64 it is to noticeable to be usefull.

I bypass that and just monitor things dry.
