Newb question regarding mixer boards

Folks:
I have software (EMU's dsp interface and Kontakt 2's interface) and my new mixer board (Alto AMX-140) and I don't really understand all of the functions of the sliders, sends returns, aux buses, etc. involved with these mixer boards.
Does someone know of a good tutorial or explanation of all of the functions these mixer boards have, and how I should set mine up? Thanks so much in advance!

You don't really need the functions of the hardware mixer, since you're doing your mixing in the PC. But it is very useful for a bank of preamps.

Analog mixers are often thought of as good for live use. In this setting, the faders and aux circuits are put to use for channel volume, and adding effects to a live signal.

You may only be using the mixer board for it's preamps, a common setup (i'm doing that as well). In this case, I only use the mixer preamps, and send each channel's signal to the PC interface from the insert point.

But, I do use the last two channels of my mixer to receive the computer's output. I mix the mic signals, with my pre-recorded tracks, and send those out to my monitoring solution (headphones, or monitors).

Did the mixer come with a manual? The description's of each function should be in there.
