Hey all, every year we have a "Toast and Jam" celebration on December 27th (you're all invited but I know it is probably a long ways to travel for a party). Anyways, although we play a lot of live music, there are a lot of people that want to sing to songs that we simply can't do live. So, I would like to purchase some sort of software karaoke solution (free would be even better).

Have any of you got any experience with Karaoke? BTW - I don't really want to get into a hardware setup, just some software or even MP3's if I knew where to look.

Cheers!

I don't know software but those small target players have line outs and they only cost around $30.

!!!!! nothing to see here !!!!!!!

If you search there's a pretty good website for Karaoke that I can't locate it right now. Lets you download but you do have to pay.

Tony advocating illegal downloads? Well I can shut the computer off now. I've seen everything.

I'm always the one advocating illegal stuff - it's my rebellion against society as a reaction to my regular family, house, dogs, kids and jobs. This morning I drove in the commuter lane as a single driver and went 70 in a 65mph zone.

If they charged fair prices I might think differently. CD+G disks are usually $20 for 4 songs.

Well, you DON'T advocate piracy and **** here, regardless of your personal opinion, it's illegal and HRC does not advocate or support illegal activities.

Period.

Once again the sense of humor falls apart in this place.

Has anyone had any success with those "so called" karaoke programs that strip out the vocals from the center channel? I tried one ages ago and it didn't really work that well. Maybe there is something better out there now.

I've tried a few free ones, not much success.

Makes everything sound computery, and strange.

YMMV, of course.

Ya, that is the same thing that happened when I tried it. I would've thought they would be further along in the technology by now.

man, I don't care what the technology is, think about what it's trying to do...I mean really, that's gotta be tough, if they could do that imagine how perfect NR processes would be!

I've tried a couple of "vocal eliminators," including the one built into Audition, and the results are hit-and-miss, usually miss. They tend to remove everything in the middle of the stereo image, including bass and most of the drums. Often they add weird digital noises too. You're better off getting tracks designed for karaoke.

The ones I used for the two Xmas tunes in my profile were from a CD I found at Mall-Wart. I'm sure you could find plenty of these CDs online, but if you want a large inventory, this could rack up a few $$$.

AnalogX has a free vocal remover you could try but it's definitely hit and miss.

Search for Karaoke sites, there's lots of them and most have free try outs.
