It could be too heavy of a project or a bug in the software.

First thing to do is make sure you have all the latest updates to the software, device drivers and operating system.

idno, with that much CPU pushing the program it should be able to handle a heck of alot more than that. I'd be willing to bet it's either background programs running or what came up in a previous post dB, know wha eim sayin?

I use Sonar from Cakewalk.

Yes, you need to register with Steinberg and download the updates from them, you also need to look for newer versions of drivers for your interfaces and your operating system.

Yeah, that's how it works with most software peeps. I use Cakewalk Sonar 6, dB uses Sonar 6 and Project 5.

I knew a guy back in Kentucky about a couple years ago that had Nuendo, and I've got to say it's just too much DAW from most practical applications. I mean, c'mon... it offers 10.1 surround sound!? Who are we doing sound for, iMax?

Sonar offers advanced surround as well :-)

I agree though, I have played with Nuendo and found it very cool, but WAY too much for my trivial needs.

I'd suggest investigating each one of your plugins. Especially if you're using any free ones.

Try to re-create your crash, and take out suspicious plugins, one at a time, and try your operation again.

Process of elimination may point to a plug-in that doesn't play nice with others.

Or, you could operate with no plugins, then add one at a time and see if it operates smootly.

It may take a little while, but there's no real other way to sniff out buggy plug-ins.

Also, I know you've posted other threads, but what PC, version of windows (or is this Mac, I can't remember)? Do you use this PC for internet? what background services are running? Do you have virus / spyware checked and cleaned?

There's a bunch of possibilities with your PC that may be messing things up. If it's a Mac, then the possibilities are much less.

Scott Stillwell has some new plugs, that he's released as VST plugs. They started off as includes with Reaper, but he's boosted them up to 'normal release' status now, so anyone with VST host can use them.

They've been getting great press on the reaper board, but I've not used them much yet.

I'm not sure if this has been brought up yet. Are you on XP or Vista. I know you got your problem fixed, but it may help with future questions.

I find the bundled compressor, EQ's, Verb and Delay from Audition all work pretty well. I use Waves for the L2 though.

Edit: Oh and hahaha Kenny, your computer can interface with mine anytime.

is your computer on-line? if so disconnect it before recording, also there are a TON of computer tweaks (on OS software) that can make things run more efficiently inside your computer.

does anyone have a link to those XP tweaks for audio computers?

and yeah, if you keep that computer dedicated for audio production only and never expose it to the net, it will save you MANY MANY MANY troubbles.

and having two hard drives help aswell.
