I would love to get some feedback on this mix. I know the blast beats are not realistic/human sounding, I am looking for feedback on the overall mix and sound of this song.

2 Guitar tracks panned 90% left
2 Guitar tracks panned 90$ right
1 Bass track centered.

I used my V-Amp Pro for the guitar and bass tracks. I used Beatcraft my drum tracks and Mixcraft for mixing/mastering.

Thank you and any and all comments are welcome good or bad.

Well I listened on my PC speakers which seem to kill mids, and it still sounded good. Not much to say other than everything sounds really nice and clear. Blast beat sounds cool, but I'm not a huge fan of that snare tone when it's so steady as there is no variation but you already touched on that. I think it would sound more natural if there was some hit variation on the snare, it that possible using your software?

All in all though, this is a great recording, much props.

Thanks a lot for taking to the time to listen CptTripps. The drum software I use does not offer hit variation. THe only thing I would do is change the volume of each hit and I might do that. I was more worried about the mix of the song and the levels of the guitars, drums, bass and vocals.

Thanks again for listening and commenting.

Every thing is really good man except the snare could use some tweaking for sure.Good mix but tweak the snare. I hear Cannibal Corpse and Morta Skuld in there for sure!

Yep, for the most part the mix sound pretty good. I am wondering though if the guitars are a little out front though as the bass and some parts of the drums got a little washed over by them at times.

Other then that I liked the sound of the guitars mixed and panned as they are.

You know, after listening again I think noise is right. During certain parts the drums do get set back in the mix. The guitars could be brought down a tad without losing their place and that might help some, just a thought.

Thanks for all the feedback. I will lower the guitars a bit when I get up in the morning and post a new mix.

Thanks again.

I have lowered the guitars a bit and did little different paning of the guitars...any difference?

Yep, that works well now. Still a heavy guitar sound but the thud of the bass is no more present as is the kick drum. I agree the snare could use a little something as well, I'm just not sure what it is. Maybe Gregor will have a better idea on the snare as this is not my genre to really critique the drums on.

But the guitar fix helped out a lot in the over all sound of the mix now. Well done!

Thanks noize2u,

Obviously I am still learing a lot about mixing and home recording in general but I appreciate all the help you all have given.

The snare sounds like it's being masked by some freq. It sounds really thin with no oomph. Is there any way you could cut some freq from the snare? Maybe add some room reverb to fill it out. Everything else is killer!!!

"masked by some freq"...hmmmmm

I would not even know where to begin...LOL I am not really great with mixing and I am trying to find someone willing to work with me and mix/master my songs and maybe even program drums for me. I have found a few people so I am hoping it will work out.

I like recording at home but all the mixing (tweaking) kills me and make me loose interest...LOL

THanks for the input dude.

I hear you on the losing interest thing. But every now and then you make a breakthrough and it all starts over again :)

On listening to the new mix, the snare is not getting lost so much, but it still sounds a little dead at times. The thing is, at 2:25 it sounds fantastic. I think this is due to the fact that there are no vocals and the guitar parts are more muted and precise.

If it was being masked by another freq, hopefully you have an analyzer in your software to look and see where the meat of the snare takes place. After that try cutting a little at said frequency from the conflicting track.

To find the conflicting track I usually just mute them one at a time and see where the problem is. I assume it's either vocals or guitar in your case, maybe both. This is just a guess though and I would check the kick also :)

Honestly your mix is very good and I would be happy in it's current state. You may be able to make it shine a little more though.

What I meant by being masked by frequencies is that the snare sounds like it's around the 1khz to 2khz range and the guitars and kicks attack are also at the range and making it hard to stand out. If you could tweak the freq of the snare or do a narrow bandwidth cut of the guitar and kicks... say about 3 db cut around the 2 khz mark it (the snare) may cut through more. The snare drum is pretty important and it should be in your face as well, but getting all the instruments to do that takes some time and patience. Just experiment and remember cutting frequencies is better than boosting.

No problem with the advice man, any time!
