ok man, take a deep breath and slow down before you throw money at ANYTHING starting right now....we'll walk you through the whole process of choosing the right piece of gear for the right job....

do you buy a car based on what people tell you or do you get the one with the features you need?

(as stated in the other thread) we need to know what you have already, how much money are you willing to spend, what kind of clients are you expecting to have, and what will their needs be? that is what you need to make your decisions on....buying a Ferrari will not make you a good driver, nor will it help pull your boat to the sea.

well, i'm getting ready for bed pretty soon...it's past 5am out here!

we have experimented with a chat feature here and this would be the kind of occasion to have it.....i havn't used any instant messaging programs in a few years now (and don't really care to start, no offence)....but i am no longer a 'pro' by my definition, to me a 'pro' makes his/her living doing whatever....i ran a studio for two years and durring that time i did consider myself 'pro' because it was paying my bills (hence the word "profession")....beyond that, all i have is knowledge and experience. if you're usually on at about this time, we'll be talking alot.....as for today, you're homework is to do some reading on the features of the many interfaces that are out there.....compare them to eachother just by reading the cold hard facts of "inputs", "outputs", and "price"....pay no attention to brand names, color, or bundled software....this will give you a feel for what's out there (just gooogle audio interface and start reading).

i think based on the way you're talking, a firewire interface might not be the best way to go...unless it has the ability to use more than one (and this will be an advertised feature, if it's not advertised, treat it as if you can't "stack" them)....

spend some time at RME's website aswell as MOTU.

remember all we're paying attention is to analog and digital inputs & outputs, and price. don't worry about the other stuff yet....simply shopping can be quite an educational process.

i'm gettin' to bed now, but am off work tommrow (er today) so i'll be back soon, i'm sure others will chime in.

cheers

wyd
