Har-bal - any tips?

Hey all,

I decided to purchase Har-bal and I'm wondering if anyone has any tips. So far all I have done is open a reference track and applied eq by dragging the "wet" slider up to about 50% wet. Even then the song came out much better than it was.

Is the best place to get started in the Har-bal help file? Possibly there are some articles on the web or even on this site??

Anyways, excited to get into the bowels of this app. I like what I've seen but I really don't know what I'm doing yet.

Ya, they have some tutorials on the HarBal site and I think dB wrote a bit on it here but I honestly don't remember.

This one is a link to the pdf file.

I think this is the same, but not sure.

Man I wish I could offer some tips. It's just such a strange beast as every session seems different. I honestly have no "set in stone" practices I use everytime.

Not that much share, really, I wrote an article with the basics, look for big spikes and dips in your spectrum and clean them up a bit...and use "air"..."air" rocks hard, try it out, it a stereo imager or something like that, does beautiful work on the sound.

The "air" fader is awesome and it does yield excellent results. I've been messing with it a bit and getting some good sound but I'm just not sure what I'm doing. The tutorial makes a bit of sense but It is rather hard to grasp what is going on. I could very well be that I'm making it more difficult than it is.

Yup, air is becoming more and more used by me. Straight from Earl's mouth, try not to go over 13% wet unless looking for a specific sound.

BH, I kind of just dug in as well. I had not looked that the tutorial either and kind of tried to hard to figure it out. Once I just started messing about it all worked out fine. Or at least I think it did anyway.

Is the Demo version or Har-Bal still available for download anywhere? I'd love to try it out seeing as I've heard so much about it.

You have to go through like you were going to purchase and then you have to cancel within 30 days if you don't want it. At least that is what it looked like to me (I was looking as well).

Yeah, the demo never kept up with the current release so they pulled it offline.
