I'm lookin for some good settings to improve the sound out of it. I have a ESP EC-1000 with EMG's. I'm lookin for a crisp metal sound but also a good clean for the clean channel. I understand this amp and EMG's were both made for metal but I'd like to get the best tone I can.

Nov 21, 2007 03:53 pm Well, I don't use one. Did play with a 5150 at one time. So I won't really have any settings to share with you.
But I can tell you that the combination of the 6505 and EMG pickups will not yield a very clean clean tone. You can smooth it out some, but if your talking clean like real clean then it probably won't happen easily.
Even with the gain turned all the way down on the rhythm channel there will still be some grit when the amp section is turned up.
One thing that might help is to bring the presence down to 0 and start from there. That may help get a little better clean tone out of it.
Nov 22, 2007 10:38 pm Yeah I get the grit alot. I dont mind it to much. I put the guitar on the bridge pickup and have the amp on clean and it gives me a gritty jcm 800 sound that just screams ACDC hahaha.
Yeah the bad clean is the only bad thing I have to say about that amp. I'm considering buying a Mesa Boogie Dual Rectifier.

Nov 23, 2007 02:34 pm Ya, a dual rec would get a better cleaner tone for sure. Much easier to control when to get the gain down and clean it up nicely for sure.
Although with the EMG's they are inherently a bit more on the high output side, but they can clean up to a certain point. I know a couple of guys that swear by them and get great clean tones. I myself have never been able to get the clean tone I want out of them though. Maybe I just didn't put enough effort into it.
Nov 24, 2007 05:39 am Well they must have tried something I haven't haha or they just don't have an amp that wasn't made with the clean side of things in mind.

Nov 24, 2007 02:25 pm One plays through a Boogie and the other plays through a Bogner. So ya, I guess they have an amp that will do pretty decent clean tones.
