Hey gang,

I've posted another song on my website that I would like to hear your opinions of. The song is called "Walk Around" and you'll find it on the main page of my site at:

www.blueninjastar.com

Your feedback is much appreciated!

if you did that in youre house, im just gonna shoot myself.
Heres the good points:
Great mix, everything sounds like its in its spot
Great musician ship- all notes are good, and in time and perfect.
Great vocal-powerfull,soulfull
Who did the engineering? its flawless

Bad points: its 300% better than anything ive done so its annoying.....

Great job, thats the kind of project we all strive for.

Wow! Thanks a lot! Yes, I did do this recording in my house. Thanks to a ton of info I've picked up from hanging around here, my recordings seem to be getting better. Thanks for taking the time to listen and for the kind words!

People please! I know I'm the ProTools guy and all, but throw me a bone, will ya? Maybe I'm being a bit impatient... but this thread was about to fall off the "Most Frequent" list! Anyway, I was just hoping to get some more feedback from you all. It helps beyond belief!

Just DL'd it tonight and will give a listen tommorrow afternoon. I have heard your other stuff and liked it very much. And I trust Tonys ear's, so I'm sure it is going to be another good one.

Well done Blueninja, great job and an inspiration to all of us involved with trying to achieve the perfect home demo.

I really can't come up with any decent criticism, good recording, good performance, and for the genre a good song. Nice hypnotic/dreamy feel to it.

If I wanted to be ultra picky I'd say the snare drum sounds a bit 'bongy' for my tastes (i like more of a 'thud' than a 'bong'), but thats the only thing I could come up with.

Could I ask how long you spent on the track, Is this a re-working or the first bash at it? Have you revised any instrument parts and rerecorded, or did you get them right first time?

What's your setup? (basic info)

Thanks glynb,

It's pretty much the first go with that song, but there's been a lot of trial and error up to this point. I spent a few days working on it, so it definitely didn't just spill out, but it did come together fairly quickly. Fortunately, I've gotten a lot of information from reading threads on this site which is making a dramatic improvement in the quality of my recordings. I tend to agree with you about the snare drum. I think I might just replace the sample that I used with one that has more "crack" to it. I've actually been thinking that for the past couple of days. I tried EQ to get it where I wanted, but it just doesn't seem to want to get there. I guess that's one of the best things about using Fruity Loops that I can go back and make that change!

Anyway, thanks for your input. It's definitely appreciated.

Well, I am glad I listened today instead of last night. For a Pro-Tools guy, thats not to bad. Just kidding, I loved it. You did a very good job on the overall mix, everything fits well and sits just right. The choice of guitar tone's was awsome. The electric stuff fit's just perfect with the acuostic. Your placement of the instrument's was also very well done. They let the vocal's come out without taking away from the movement of thing's in the stereo field. You seem to have pretty good grasp on keeping thing's from stagnating by moving stuff around just when it needs to.

Keep up the good work, I look forward to hearing more of your stuff. And you have impressed my son's as well, and that is a chore sometimes.

Peace

hey thanks Noize!

That really means a lot coming from you. I've been learning a lot from your posts and it seems to be paying off. I think I'm actually getting to the point where I'll be able to start answering as many questions as I ask!

Thanks again for your feedback. This place rocks!

Ninja,

Is there any chance of sending me a copy via email? I have a little situation here. I keep my computers seperated and the computer that I access the net with has only a standard sound card and mini speakers. Your mix sounds great and I would realy love to listen to the tonal qualities in more detail, but I can't seem to save the song to disk to transfer to my studio computer.

I just emailed it to you Walt. In the event that it doesn't make it there because of the size of the attachment (some ISPs limit the file size of emails), let me know and I'd be happy to get it to you some other way. Even if I need to mail you a CD.

Ninja,

Just as I thought!

Very nice. Full sound, well blended, everything I have already read about it in this thread. Sorry it took so long. I had to burn 20 CD's for our band, and make rehersal inbetween. We got to get you discovered!

Noise, you are much too kind. And yes the bassline is yours whenever you wish. My pleasure. I have decided on an eminence EUB (electric upright bass) I will probably be about a month before I have it in, but it is worth waiting for. Again thank you so much for the offer, but I do have a network here. Got the ADAT, studio computer, work computer, Sandy's computer, and a plug for the lab top all wired in with a couple of small hubs. My problem is downloading the songs. Good ole real player jumps in the way and I can't save the song. Once I got the song from Ninja it was a snap to transfer it to the studio computer via network and have a good listen. And what a good listen it was! Nice stuff!

And thank you! With that advice I will flush the "slayer" pronto instead of incuring the infered headaches of making it work. I did get ole go go the zilla working finaly. He is making a big difference downloading instead of trying to stream. The net is very congested on my port right now and streaming makes me CrAzY!
