I have acid pro 4.0.
Mobile pre USB soundcard.
AKG Perception 200 mic

AMD Sempron Processor
1.81 GHz 896 MB ram

Here is my problem.
Everytime I record the computer eventually freezes right in the middle of a session , I have to restart and it may work great anywhere from 1 minute to an hour.
But It always freezes.

This also happens when I render a file (Wav or Mp3)

I just added more memory in hopes it would fix the problem but it hasnt.

ANY help would be greatly apprciated , I am about to start some heavy recording in December and I have to get this situation under control.

Thanks in Advance.
Sincerely,
Scott Johnson

I can't help you but as an Acid 6 user I can tell you that the upgrade is worth it. Your PC is a little lightweight but should be able to handle it. Sometimes you just need to reformat your PC and reinstall, or maybe just a reinstall.

One thing to check as well is to make sure you have the most up to date drivers for the mobile pre unit. That can cause a problem on occasion as well.

It sort of sounds like a hardware issue a little too, possibly.

If you have temperature monitoring, check your CPU temps. You may need to upgrade your CPU fan/heatsink if things are overheating. (rendering a file will max your cpu, and could cause a system hang if you're overheating).

I use futuremark's RMclock utility to check temps.

Also, you're using XP and not win98, right?

Be sure to have all other programs closed when you run audio, and use the task manager to turn off any junk you may have running in the background such as iTunes, antivirus, Windows update services or anything else you're not needing at the moment. All of those things eat resources.

I use Acid Pro 4 on a 900MH laptop with only 128 megs of ram. It only hangs up if I use more than 2 vst softsynths, but not always. I'm actually surprised that it work so well. I generally have 15 to 20 tracks per song.
I'd check to see what else is running on your computer, because your computer seems fine.
I'm running XP Home by the way.

Who me? It was just another opinion from my experience. Especially since my pc is older and slower.
There was a site for tuning up an audio pc with xp. --musicxp.net-- It looks like you need to log in now. I never had to when I did my pc. It's amazing how much stuff is running that you don't need.

Oops. I see that there is info on musicxp in the tips section. Sorry I'm new here.
