umm...in windoze... ummm...

(in reverse order)

start->run->winipconfig (or ipconfig) and see if you're getting an ip address from your router...try releasing it and getting a new one too...

err... make sure that your wireless authentication is correct first...WEP/WPA/WTF etc :)

but before that restart teh router by just unplugging it... and the DSL/Cable modem... I've seen that sometimes if a worm hits your hardware firewall it will crash because of all the log entries... basically a DOS attack...

Then if that is all good go to your command prompt and use the following commands to refresh the IP.

ipconfig /release

then

ipdonfig /renew

That should refresh the ip configuration if it was having trouble.

I've got to re-power mine every so often, like once a week, to once a month.

Simple enough, and cures whatever is stalling my connection (dlink di514 - d'oh!)

thanks for the advice all, i tried the ipconfig thing and my 'dos' screen pops up for half a second than disappears....for some strange reason, it's been working now (i've done nothing to fix it)....i did a windows update (automatics are turned off) and i had 47 updates installed!!! after a re-boot it found some kinda trojen virus and "removed" it....but now it's different....my browser works fine for 10 mins or so then it just stops workin'. all i've done is reboot and it works again (i haven't tried unplggin' the usb wireless but i will when it happens again.
it's just good to be back on-line again!

Maybe it was the Trojan that the two girls with the cup should have used...

It very well could be WYD. A browser hijacker can hide out and not be found. They can also duplicate them selves and place bits in every little nook and cranny.

You can try running this, forums.majorgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=134965 as it seemed to work very well for tonyoci I think it was. I haven't tried it yet but a few peeps at work stated it was a pretty good app.

I like the "automatically download updates, let me choose when to install them" option for windows update.

the automatic install option screwed me over one time when i was running an optimization. It'd been running for a week, and then automatically installed and subsequently restarted itself. The following day, I had to present my "results".

thanks for the info Noize, well today it's workin' no problems, we unplugged the router for a few hours and it seemed to help, i ran that program and have the .txt file but i have no idea what to do with it or what it means, i'm assuming they want you to copy and paste it at that forum and the good folks there can work from that....i'm not sure it "fixed" anything but it looked like it did a good scan and made notes on the results....anywho, i'm not having problems atm so i'm a happy surfer. now if i can just figure out how to get sound outta this thing! HA! i love the irony.
