So I've been listening to a lot of radiohead lately...
What are some steps to take to get a radiohead-esque sound?

Nov 10, 2007 08:22 am I really like a lot of the sounds they get. Like I spent all night trying to mimic the sounds, but turns out I'm actually pretty bad at making reversed guitar tracks sound good for more than just an into. So far it seems like using a lot of piano, reversed stuff, and crazy vocal dynamics.

Nov 10, 2007 09:25 pm Ya, Thome York is an experimenter as is the guitar player. Lots of nifty stuff gong on that sometimes never gets noticed.
I don't think there is any certain recipe for duplicating their sound. Its just a matter of experimenting till you get close.
Nov 11, 2007 04:00 am in a word, reverbs...their 'depth' is awsome...oh and dynamics...don't squish a whole song, just the peak.
Nov 11, 2007 10:29 am radiohead has so many different sounds and layers. you could take anything from them and still not sound like radiohead because what makes radiohead sound like radiohead is the songs themselves more than anything else, i think.

Nov 11, 2007 05:38 pm I guess it also depends on which era Radiohead you're talking about.
The Bends is a lot different to OK Computer, is a lot different to Kid A....

Nov 11, 2007 07:37 pm is a lot different to In Rainbows.
They have it right really. It is very difficult to obtain the Radiohead sound as it revolves around so many different things.
Nov 13, 2007 01:26 am if i had to name one thing that makes radiohead radiohead, i would have to say it's their freedom with harmony. seems like no chord is out of bounds. they find a harmonic 'path' to whatever chord they feel like using.

Nov 13, 2007 09:03 pm forty, I think that may be exactly why they sound like they do. Using no rules or theory in creating the music they do.
Nov 17, 2007 04:37 am "Exit Music" has been playing over and over on my ipod lately that songs peak gives me goosebumps every time i hear it.
