Hey, the news is getting scary from out there.

Any HRC members close to this? I know TallChap lives in Ventura, which seems to be out of the way so far.

Edit- I just did a more thorough check, and I guess Ventura's not out of the way.

Y'all right over there, TC?

We have an office in Vista CA. Starting to get nervous as it is not far from Carlsbad.

Doesn't coolo reside in San Diego, Or is it San Fran? I forget which all the time.

Either way, heres to hoping every one is safe and stays that way.

Wow, this is getting way out of control. 1 million people evacuated?? Holy crap. Our office is still safe but is surrounded by 3 different fires. Is the whole state going to burn down?!!

ha, the real libs are in the bay area(SF for me), and we're doing peachy, although we've been having real dry, warm, with no wind weather, better known as earthquake weather, so hopefully nothing jumps off.

deeps is in SD though. Forty is in LA now? olddog is in cali too somewhere?

Now come on coolo, wouldn't all your liberal friends be angry to hear you actually sounding happy and optimistic? Aren't you all supposed to be angry, depressed and protesting something?

Now get your picket sign and get to work, damnit! I am guessing this fire is somehow the Bush administration's fault, isn't it? ;-)

Oh, yeah, peachy aside from the fact that I'm angry at the bush administration for starting and encouraging these fires...

Smoky here. Ash is falling all around and we are getting lovely orangey-grey sunsets. I've been woken up by the smell of smoke (pretty intense) a couple of times.

We just got over the "Zaca" fire, now this. 'er indoors' brother lives near Zuma beach - just a few miles from the Malibu fire. That one's pretty much contained now.

Thanks for the concern, Herb.

The Bush Administration couldn't organize a fire. They'd steal one from someone else....

<Psffffft> The sound of a can of worms.....

Here's an interesting interactive map of the fires. If you care.

i'm in the san fernando valley, north hollywood. first two days, it was bright blue skies, no sign of the fires (which are, by car, about 25 minutes from me). but yesterday a bruise-black cloud tinged orange and pink hung smack dab over the valley. it was high (because it had to get over the mountains) and so there was basically no smell. maybe the tiniest hint of a fire smell, but really not noticeable. but this cloud produced an alien lighting effect in the valley below. pedestrians were orange-ish.

arnold is at the scene, by the way. aiming a big hose at a line of fire, he said dramaticallly 'go to hell' and then the music swelled.

I haven't heard from my son yet either. He is either staying in Huntington Beach or Long Beach. But he has been working up and down the southern coast so I'm not sure exactly were he is at the moment.

That is looking bad out there though with so many fires spread so far apart.

Malibu is 100% contained. I'm afraid San Diego county got it bad again.
