our field reporter uses the marantz pmd 660, and this morning he came to me with the problem that his LED display screen on the unit is not showing up. its completly blank.
i have tried both just using batteries.. and just using the power connection and neither one gives me a result.
when i press the light button, the screen lights up but there is still no LCD display. pressing any of the other buttons "menu", etc etc.. also warrants no response.
you can press play and hear the tracks playing and such, but without being able to see track numbers and timecode in the display its a worthless process to us....
any tips, suggestions, or other outlets to search for an answer would be greatly appreciated.

Oct 23, 2007 02:10 pm That is one of those cases where I would say to consult a repair person, it's likely there is some sort of ribbon cable between the screen and the circuit boards within, a couple of those cables probably broke or something of that nature.
Based on my googling that model, that looks like a cool little device.
Oct 23, 2007 02:28 pm yeah its a great device... and the reporter admitted to me that he dropped it. i guess i will take it apart and investigate....
Oct 23, 2007 02:32 pm ah, well, that takes part of the puzzle away...my first thought was wondering why a cable that doesn't move could break...dropping answers lots of questions sometimes :-)

Most times you can order just the screen and do the repair yourself. If it has the ribbon cable as dB suggested then it is possible it came unhooked. If it is a surface mount, (soldered directly to the cricuit board) then odds are good it is the screen that failed.

May 30, 2013 04:24 pm I have this issue with my PMD660. Did you successfully resolve the issue? Do you have any advice/wisdom to share about disassembly and repair? Thanks.

Dec 01, 2014 09:16 am Hi there. I had exactly the same problem with my Marantz PMD600 and I was able to fix the problem.
I think something became dislodged when the Marantz was dropped, so I took it apart (which was quite easy), disconnected all the ribbons and wires and reconnected them all.
There is one awkward screw to remove so that you can get at the LCD screen. I popped the LCD screen out of the Circuit Board and popped it back in and reconnected.
Now the Marantz works like a charm again! Let me know how you get on.
