Does anybody else find researching gear/reading about software/computers and whatnot ...

similar to crack?

Seriously, I could do this all freaking day and not get bored.

... the researching aspect is atleast less expensive... however I spent the past two weeks buying a proper lighting kit for a short movie I want to do soon... bought a 1kw fresnel, 750w ellipsoidal, and a bar flood, seamless paper backdrop, and backdrop stand. Waiting for most of it to arrive still...

Yes, I feel the same way. It's called "GAS".

Gear Aquisition Syndrome

It is terminal and the treatment is very costly.

I used to, then I realized all gear is so much the same it doesn't matter...and my personal requirements are so minimal it's a waste of my time.

As a self confessed lighting geek (albeit on a commercial/architectural level), I find myself oddly aroused at the use of words like "fresnel" and "ellipsoidal"...

Didn't think this was one of those kinds of forum...

Ooo-er...

Actually, I just 'installed' my old surround sound receiver and speakers via optical cable to my PC. I stood back and thought...."maybe it's getting out of hand."

All the pages in my gear catalogs are stuck together...

All I want for Xmas is a Telefunken U47. Nothing serious. If anyone has one lying around for under $100, email me.

my current affliction is with computer parts... building systems... comparing between apple/dell/diy... spending any free time at www.anandtech.com checking out the builds/comparisons they do...

I found one u47 on Vintage King Audio... however, it was gone when i actually clicked the link... sorry.

I'm afraid it was slightly out of the $100 price range, however.

Hi, my name is Noize and I'm a gearhore!

Welcome to the club kenneth.

I used to go through gear simply on a wim. If I needed it for a single track in the studio, I would simply go out and buy it. Then if it didn't get used within the next 6 months or I knew I would not use it again, out the door it went. Sometimes for what I paid, sometimes more, but usually for less. I traded off more gear and bought more gear for about a 3 year period then I had in my entire life up to that point. But it all served its purpose. Now I only buy what I will use and want to keep. If I need something special, like the vintage U47 pair a buddy has at his studio. I simply go there and use them to track and bring my project back here to finish. Herb, go ahead and drool if you want to. And truth be told, yes I covet his U47's with a passion. IS that a sin?

Herb, nice radio for sure.

I guess I'll have to break down and take some pix of some of the goodies here. Like my Washburn pointy guitar from the Robert Palmer video's. And a few bits and bob's from before Greg Mackie was famous and built simple stuff, and car audio stuff as well.

zek, I personally like your mic stand. How much does that cost?

that was just $40.

The gimmick was that because I switched to a linux studio instead of sinking another $800 in cakewalk, I could afford to hire models to pose for my 'studio pix.'

Now that I have a good backdrop I might do more...

but here are some others:

... I don't have any with my drumset because I keep it at church... :)

For that bass I'd take it the other direction so the head stock with the visible "Samick" doesn't show :-)

(no offence i was just refering to the $40 one)....and how much would it cost for her to hold some of my prized 'gear' for a photo shoot? ok, that's just bad taste! but you started it!

actually I met her though a Christian EDM forum :)

most of the models I work with now are from modelmayhem.com though.

DB: My 'Fender 300' bass amp makes up for the samicks short comings... I have never found any information on that series though... and I've talked to some fender nuts...

Me: Yeah I have a 'fender 300'
Fender Nut: You mean to say '300 PS' or '300 Bass'
Me: Nope - '300' ...modified rack mountable with wood sides and a side carrying handle...
Fender Nut: WTF?!?!
