Ok So i had bought some drum mics online, cause well i couldnt pass it up. now i got 2 GXL 1200s and they dont seem to work. i tried turning the phantom power on and still nothing. i am running them into a beringher mixer. i am running them through a XLR to 1/4" M, could this be my problem? if there broken then oh, well cause i like the other 4 mics i got with em. but itd be cool if they worked too.

Oct 06, 2007 12:52 am to use phantom power the cables must be xlr-xlr. Using a 1/4" wont work.
xlr cables are wired using 3 cables hot/cold/grnd where 1/4" unbalanced uses just two hot/grnd.

Oct 06, 2007 08:54 am yep, I don't think phantom power will go out through the 1/4" jack, only the xlr input.

Oct 06, 2007 08:45 pm And never ever ever ever switch phantom power on while the mic is plugged in. You want it on and the board off until you plug the mic in.

Oct 07, 2007 05:08 pm Huh? The Behringer's (and I'll bet
most others') phantom supply can only be switched on after the board is
powered up. I've done what you
recommend not doing many times--with
the gain all the way down, of course.
Then I switch on the 48 volts, let it
warm up for a minute or two, and then
set the gain and output levels.
You can do serious damage by
powering up the 48v with a typical
1/4" jack plugged in, however. Behringer specifically warns against doing this. ("Never use unbalanced mic cables with Phantom power switched on ever! Shorting +48V DC to earth can
cause serious damage. Do not connect
mics with phantom power switched on.")

Oct 07, 2007 05:16 pm If you have the 2442a you can simply set the switch to on before you power up the desk. I use a 3283a desk and it should be the exact same set up for phantom power. simply set the phantom switch to on, plug in the mics and then power up the desk.
But having 1/4" plugs in the line input sections will not mess up the phantom power at all. They are isolated from getting the 48v. The 48v only goes to the XLR connections.
