Home recording newbie - M-Audio Fast Track Pro on MacOS X

Just bought an m-audio fast track pro unit. I installed the latest drivers for MacOS X Intel from the M-Audio website, plugged the USB cable into my Mac (device connected), pressed the power button on the back (blue power light comes on, on the unit) and plugged my brand new Audix OM2 microphone into the 1 Mic/Inst port. the Inst/Line button is "out" for an Inst setting. In the Fast Track Pro control panel, the first two boxes are checked and the last two boxes are checked. Sample Depth is 24 bits. In GarageBand, I set Input Source to Mono 1 (M-Audio Fast Track) and monitor is Off. Nothing seems to be happening when I record a track. Shouldn't I at least see signal lights on the unit when talking into the microphone?

The button needs to be set for mic input not instrument input. Also, have you turned up the pre amp gain at all? That needs to be up a bit for it to get input signal from the mic, more for some less for others.

Also, are you sure the mic cable is a good cable, sometimes that is the culprit.

I ended up throwing out the entire setup and getting a LexiconPro Alpha. Using it with my old Shure SM58 it works...though there is an electronic "hum" that I'm now trying to isolate.

Thanks!
