delay while recording?

when im trying to record something sometimes the sound will be delayed till i hear it through my headphones. is this cause of my interface? or is it my computer or the program?

i have a behringer f-control firewire interface and im using garageband

It is caused by latency between the card and the software communicating.

You need to find the latency buffer settings in your sound card software and adjust it as well as setting it in GarageBand.

Try a setting of 128, if you get pops and crackles move it up to maybe 256.

Although indeed if the driver's you are using are substandard then that can cause and issue as well. Try using either the ASIO or WDM drivers. Do not use the MME type drivers as those are emulated and don't work for beans.
