Processors and Recording

Hi, I have a question about processors. I am using Lexicon Omega which is connected to my computer and I am using Steinberg on the computer. I was wondering is there a way to record vocals onto a track in steinberg, and then go back to a certain part of the song and use the processors I've got. (Like I have a Antares Vocal Producer, and if theres a part in the song where I need pitch correction for just that part, is there anyway to just get that section of the song through the processor and back to the computer and record it at the same time? Thanks for any help.

Is there a specific place where I can read up on "automation"?

The users help documentation would be one place.

What you want to do, if you can, is record your tracks with no processing or effects - dry - then add any of those effects when you mix down the piece. You will use these effects by assigning them to a particular track, then using "envelopes", which is what whosyourdaddy was referring to. Envelopes allow you to raise or lower the level of a track or the effects/processing applied to a particular track.

Steinberg (Cubase?) may use a different scheme, but this is what I'm familiar with. Good luck.

Yes I have Steinberg Cubase, but I dont see anything that says 'envelope' on it. Like I said, Ive got three effects (rackmount) processors and I was wondering if it was possible to take a recorded track on the computer and run it through the processors and back to the computer onto the same track that was originally already recorded.
Sorry if Im being complicated...Im a slow learner!
Thanks for all of your help.

Ah, sorry. I misinterpreted your original post.

You'll need to rerecord the track, with the added effects, onto a NEW track. This means sending the signal from the original track through your outboard processor, then back into Cubase onto its own unique track. Thinking of the signal chain, and using the manuals for Cubase and the Lexicon, you can figure it.

Oh okay. Well the Lexicon didnt come with any manuals, but I can probsbly figure it out any way. Ive tried running a chord from the output of the Lexicon to the input on the processors and then back in to the input on the Lexicon and then back into the computer, but I got a really loud squeel. I know it can be done, I can try something else I guess. Thanks for your help and your time and sorry for the misunderstanding, I guess I could have madeit more clear.

Thanks Its good to be a member. I looked for the "Process Plugin" file, and the only thing I could find is "plugin Information". But I dont see how I could get my processors on there. the only way my Rackmount Processors are connected to the computer is the output on the processors go to the input on my Lexicon Omega, and it goes from there to the computer by USB. If it will help, the three processors I have is: Antares Vocal Producer, Lexicon MX 200, Behringer Virtualizer Pro. I just dont see how to get it under the "Effects" Catagory.
Thanks for the help.

Ah, I thought you were talking about plug ins!

Yeppers, the only way is to record a new file. You'll have to disable the monitor button on the channel strip to get rid of the feedback. Looks like a little bronze speaker.

what I do with cubase and outbard is record the parts dry (no effects) and then run the track/s I want to add external effects to out a different set of outs than my mains (output 3 and 4 on my card), with those going to the ins of the rack, and the outs of the rack going ot the ins 3 and 4 of the card. I then arm those tracks for recording, hi play and record, and the audio flows out of the computer, to the rack, and right back into the computer, with the effected audio being ona new track.
