USB Sound Card

Hello, Newbie so please forgive.

I record my music on Zoom MRS8, and Then I transfer it to my Dell Inspiron 6000, and mix it through Kristal DAW.
I don't know what sound card comes with the Dell, but I presume its only middle of the road,
Do I need a decent USB sound Card for mixdown, bearing in mind that the recording is one on the ZOOM MRS8 ?

Welcome to HRC!!

How are you transfering to the Dell? Are you sending it digitally? Then a sound card isn't quite as important, becasue you'd only be using it to monitor what you're mixing. That's probably OK.

If you're dumping your tracks to the Dell one track at a time through the analog output, and then mixing them, you would want a audio interface (sound card) that has better analog to digital conversion. In that case, a decent USB interface would be in order.

Hope this helps!

Hi,

The Zoom MRS has a SD Card, so the tracks are on the SD Card,
You then transfer the tracks on the laptop( dell) via the sd card, and then convert them to Wav through Zoom card manager, and
then mix them through Kristal, So none of the recording is done on the laptop, just the adding of effects and VST's
Rgds and thanks.

In that case, I don't see that a USB interface will appreciably help your sound. If you're happy with the results that you're getting then I wouldn't worry about it.
